#78-Speedtest by Ookla Chrome Extension Version 1.0.7 Review: A Very Reliable Software

The internet nowadays is not limited to a select few of the society. The internet has become a basic necessity of our life. The US, which has an estimated population of 323,995,528 (2016), has around 286,942,362 internet users. China, a country with a booming economy, has around 721,434,547 internet users. India, another country with a fast-growing economy, has approximately 462,124,989 internet users. The numbers are of 30 June, 2016. People who spend a lot of time daily on the internet, often compare being offline to being dead. The internet is a reflection of the modern society. There are things on the internet which are pleasant, which add value to our life, and then there are things on the internet which are not-so-pleasant, which propel us to a path of self-destruction and misery. When you get online, especially when you are away from home or work, the first thing which comes to your mind is speed. You don't want to spend your precious time on a slow internet connection. Browsing on a slow internet is a frustrating experience. If you go on a video chat with a friend or your employer or a colleague, it will be a horrible experience. If you watch a video on YouTube or Vimeo, you feel exasperated. On the other hand, if you see that you have super-fast internet, you will feel as if you are in heaven. The pages, tracks, videos, everything will load instantly, and bandwidth-intensive activities like having a video chat will be a highly comfortable experience, in fact, you will feel that you are having the chat face-to-face. Speed is everything in the world of internet. As of now, South Korea has the highest average internet speed of 26.3 Mbps, Hong Kong & Norway coming in second and third position with 20.1 Mbps & 20.0 Mbps respectively.

The speedtest.net platform of Ookla, a company well known for its accuracy in reporting internet metrics, has been used to run over 9.2 B internet speed tests till date, and that's a really huge number. The service provided by speedtest.net is unique because of the power it puts into the hands of common people and because of its robustness. The service manages a network of hundreds of testing locations which makes the service incredibly fast and efficient. The speedtest.net platform performs over 50 M tests every month. With the Speedtest by Ookla chrome extension, you don't even need to go to speedtest.net, you can run a speed test right from your extension bar. The speedtest.net team has taken good care of localization, the extension is available in 17 languages at the moment. The extension comes with an extra feature. In addition to measuring your ping, download, & upload speeds, with it installed, you can measure a website's load time too. The software has a very intuitive and sleek design. To run a speed test, you just have to click on the extension's button on the extension bar and then click on the big round GO button in the popup window. The tests do not take much time to finish and the extension remembers the last test's results in the same session. The extension gives you the option to share the test results. You can also save the results to your account by signing in.

#77-Cleverbot AI Review: Not Bad for an AI

Launched in 2006, Cleverbot has attracted a lot of attention for its amusing nature in the last few years. Cleverbot is an AI which chats with you like a human, well, almost like a human. The site has a global Alexa rank 41,348 and the US rank 16,232. Cleverbot seems to have a few sister projects although none of them are very interesting, which is probably why  cleverbot.com  has a 71.00% bounce rate (71.00% visitors to cleverbot.com navigate away from the site after viewing only one page). There are three buttons below the chat box labeled, "think about it", "think for me", and "thoughts so far". None of these three are very intuitive or useful. The sandwich button at the right of the chat box offers some useful options. When the bot has loaded but no conversation has taken place, you will see only two options in the sandwich menu, the option to change the language and the option to continue the conversation next visit. The default language is English....
