#102-GIPHY for Chrome Version 1.3 Review: Colorful, Lacks a Few Features

The gif or graphics interchange format is a lossless image file format introduced to the world by CompuServe in 1987 . It is the third most widely used image file format on the web after png and jpeg, at the moment. Due to the format's astounding portability, evocative crispiness, and engrossing elegance, it will continue entertaining us for years to come, that's for sure. The format uses LZW or Lempel–Ziv–Welch compression. The LZW patent is owned by Unisys. The funny thing is, CompuServe had no idea about the patent when it created the gif format. The format can now be used freely, for all intents and purposes. The gif format supports both static and animated images, although animated gifs are the main reason behind the format's widespread popularity. The format is used for logos with solid color areas but limited variations.
