The gif or graphics interchange format is a lossless image file format introduced to the world by CompuServe in 1987. It is the third most widely used image file format on the web after png and jpeg, at the moment. Due to the format's astounding portability, evocative crispiness, and engrossing elegance, it will continue entertaining us for years to come, that's for sure. The format uses LZW or Lempel–Ziv–Welch compression. The LZW patent is owned by Unisys. The funny thing is, CompuServe had no idea about the patent when it created the gif format. The format can now be used freely, for all intents and purposes. The gif format supports both static and animated images, although animated gifs are the main reason behind the format's widespread popularity. The format is used for logos with solid color areas but limited variations. BuzzFeed, the world-renowned news outlet that publishes hot trending stories, has started a new era of gif-powered photojournalism.

Clicking on the extension button in the extension bar will open a panel that will show you the latest trending gifs on the web. At the bottom, you will see the gif search bar. The prediction algorithm is not very robust at the moment. The speed is good. The menu button at the left of the gif search bar presents a multitude of colorful options. For instance, you can open the menu and go to music, and then Beyonce to get gifs tagged #beyonce. The hashtags play a crucial role in the categorization of the gifs. The results are not saved. When you click on a gif, you will be taken to the page for that gif inside the panel and from there you can click and drag the gif to embed it wherever you want, copy link or search related gifs by clicking on a tag.
