#100-How to Get an AWS Account

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a secure IT infrastructure service platform in the cloud, has helped millions of corporations bring their total cost of ownership (TCO) down by a huge margin. From computing to storage, AWS has it all. AWS means a low headache and a high profit. It is the perfect platform that can fulfill a growing corporation's varying scalability needs with ease and is capable of handling each and every use case.

To create an AWS account, you need to go to the AWS sign up portal. You need to log in using Amazon's secure server providing the credentials of your existing Amazon account. If you don't have an Amazon account, you can get one in minutes. After logging in you will reach the AWS Console page. You need to provide contact information and indicate the account type on this page. You can either create a company account or create a personal account. In this article, we are going with a personal account. You are required to provide your full name, country, address, city, state/ province or region, postal code, phone number, and perform a security check. After you check the box for AWS customer agreement, you need to click on the "Create Account and Continue" button.

The next step of the sign-up process is providing the payment information. You will be asked to provide cardholder's name, credit/debit card number, expiration date, CVV, and address (contact address or a new address). You are also required to provide your PAN if you have one. After you click on "Verify Card and Continue" button, you will be charged a small amount (INR 2.00, in our case) that will be refunded when the card is validated. The bank may take 3-5 business days to show the refund. Mastercard/ Visa cardholders may be redirected to the bank page for payment authentication.

Upon successful completion of payment & PAN information submission step, you will reach the identity verification step. Here, you will be asked to enter a PIN displayed on the page in response to an automated phone call.

In the support plan selection step, you have three options, Basic, Developer, and Business. If you are getting started with AWS, we recommend going with Basic. Click on the "Continue" button.

You should get a registration confirmation and a confirmation email within a few minutes indicating your AWS account is ready. The email will inform you that you are going to have free access to four services, compute, storage, database, and application for 12 months. We recommend you check out the Free Tier page. The AWS Free Tier is an amazing offering from Amazon which gives you the opportunity to learn hands-on how to use AWS platform in general and its wide range of products and services in specific. In the details section of the Free Tier page, you can check out featured, 12 months free, and always free offerings. There are free & paid software solutions that run on AWS Free Tier. These solutions are available on AWS Marketplace. Sign in to the AWS Management Console and you are ready to go. In the Management Console, you can search for AWS services, build a solution, learn to build, and explore AWS in depth. The URL in the address bar should be similar to https://ap-south-1.console.aws.amazon.com/console/home?region=ap-south-1. You are done.
